Pusat Perkhidmatan Wanita (PPW)
Watch the video below to learn more about PPW.
With the establishment of PPW, we are able to expand our services to the people in Seberang Perai. On 19 January 2009, PPW started its operation in a rented shoplot. In 2018, WCC purchased and operated out of a double storey terrace house.
Our Work Areas
The work of PPW mirrors the work at WCC on Penang Island. We provide services in counselling, conduct outreach programmes in schools and communities, and advocate for the rights of victims of sexual and domestic violence.
Services
PPW provides counselling services for women and children experiencing crisis. We provide telephone, face-to-face and online counselling in the client’s preferred language. We also provide temporary shelter for women and their children who are experiencing domestic violence.
As part of our growth, PPW started working with the One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) at the Emergency Department of Hospital Seberang Jaya in March 2012. We have expanded our collaboration with Hospital Kepala Batas dan Hospital Bukit Mertajam. In partnering with OSCC, our PPW team is on call to provide emotional support for domestic violence and sexual assault clients referred by OSCC. Majority of the sexual assault victims are children.
Advocacy
We believe it is important that victims of domestic violence and sexual assaults receive the necessary information and legal support in order for them to access justice through the system. We provide emotional support, legal advice and court support for victims and their families who are going through the court process.
Outreach
PPW runs a range of WCC’s sexual abuse prevention programmes in schools targeted at different age groups on Penang mainland. The OK Tak OK programme teaches primary school children about good touch and bad touch, and to inform trusted adults should they encounter any abuse. We also train school teachers on how to conduct OK Tak OK programme for their students via the Bijak Itu Selamat programme. In addition, PPW carries out Cybersafety and Respek programmes for secondary school students.
We work closely with the Penang State Assemblypersons (ADUNs) service centres, hospitals, community clinics and other organisations to organise awareness programmes on various topics, such as domestic violence, child sexual abuse, parenting skills, etc. One of our major projects was to empower our clients, who are mainly single mothers. As a result, we published a book “Hear Our Stories” in 2014.
10th Anniversary of PPW
The setting up and funding of PPW in 2009 reflects the commitment of the Penang State Government in ending violence against women and children. With the support of the Penang State Government, WCC is able to serve the needs of women and children in the mainland of Penang better.

To mark the 10th year of the smart partnership between WCC and the Penang State Government, we jointly organised the Penang Goes Orange: I Stop VAWC (Violence Against Women and Children) walk together with Penang Women’s Development Corporation. Five thousand people from all walks of life participated in the joyous event.
To commemorate our anniversary, the book “10th Anniversary: PPW 2009 – 2019” was published to document our 10-year journey in supporting women and children who experienced abuse. The testimonials from our clients and partners speaks volume about the impact of our work in the mainland of Penang, particularly on the lives of women and children in crisis.
