Referral to Temporary Shelter

We are able to refer you and your children to a temporary shelter if there is a need of an emergency home for protection. The temporary shelter is a safe house to help you get away from your abuser while you decide on your next course of action. The duration of stay is decided on a case-by-case basis. You and your children’s stay will be free of charge.

Legal Information

If you want to know what your rights are on family matters like divorce and child custody, call us for an appointment.

Victim Support

Our social worker can accompany you to the police station, hospital, and Social Welfare Department, if necessary. If your case goes to court, WCC also provides support in court. A social worker and advocacy officer will accompany you throughout your court proceedings and help you with the follow up with various agencies like the police, arrange for pre-trial briefings, etc.

Hospital Support

The One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) is set up in the Emergency Department in all government hospitals across the country. Any victim who is facing domestic or sexual violence will access help from OSCC, the police, Social Welfare Department, and WCC for assistance. In 2009, WCC began its on-call services at the OSCC, offering counselling and emotional support, with the victim’s consent. PPW/WCC Seberang also began a similar on-call service with the Seberang Jaya Hospital in 2012.

WCC works closely with most of government hospitals in Penang state. The OSCC will refer the victim to WCC once the victim gives her/his consent to WCC. We then visit the client at the hospital or WCC office to give emotional counselling and information.

Training Government Agencies

We train service providers so that they are more sensitive towards the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims. If your agency would like to understand how to better give victim support services and enhance your staff’s understanding about issues of domestic violence and sexual assault, please email or call WCC to discuss.

We work closely with the police, hospitals and Social Welfare Departments. It is important that these agencies understand the complexities of the issue of violence against women and children so that they are able to provide appropriate support to the victims without perpetuating societal myths and misconceptions about such violence.

Training Doctors, Nurses & Medical Students

We also conduct training and talks specifically for doctors, trainee doctors, medical social workers, nurses, medical students, and student nurses so that they provide gender-sensitive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. This is important so that victims do not experience secondary victimisation when they seek medical treatment at hospitals.
